We woke to a change in weather this morning. It has been "hot, hot, hot" since our arrival in Page. Last night we had a rain storm which brought in a cold front. This morning was cloudy and cool, with a good chance of more rain in the afternoon. At 9 AM we set off to "The Ranch House Grille" in Page for breakfast, prior to our tour of Antelope Canyon. Breakfast was excellent and we were ready for our adventure. As we waited to board the vehicles for the tour, the weather got much cooler and it began to rain. Some of us were well prepared for the change in weather, while others were not. The store next door got quite a bit of business, as members of our group purchased sweatshirts and jackets.

We boarded the vehicles as the rain got heavier. We huddled together as we bounced on the highway, getting wet and chilly.

Once we arrived at the canyon, the rain stopped and we believed it would be worth the wet and mud, so we entered the canyon following our Navajo guide.

Once inside the canyon our guide explained that the canyon was discovered by a young girl who was searching for some lost sheep. He used a flashlight to point out some of the shapes seen in the canyon and the best picture spots. Some mud would occasionally drop on us as the rain continued and got heavier.

Suddenly people were shouting and running back toward the entrance. The Navajo guides were telling us not to panic and not to run. Of course, people did not listen. It was a little frightening looking at the faces of those runnning toward us. By now, the rain was quite heavy and the fear was of a flash flood, as the rain poured over the sides of the canyon.

Once we were out of the canyon the guides told us to quickly board the vehicles. The rain continued to come down. We were soaking wet and cold as the guide drove out of the canyon and back to town.
All of us were glad to get back to solid ground, into our cars, and back to our coaches.
By the time we got back to the campground the rain had stopped. As the afternoon progressed, the sky cleared, the sun shone, and the temperature got hot.
Today was quite an adventure!
